Calcined Kaolin Clay
Detailed Introduction
Calcined China Clay, also named Kaolinite, is a clay mineral, part of the group of industrial minerals with the chemical composition Al2Si2O5(OH)4. It is a layered silicate mineral. The name "kaolin" is derived from "Gaoling" Kaolinite has a low shrink–swell capacity and a low cation-exchange capacity. It is a soft, earthy, white mineral, produced by the chemical weathering of aluminium silicateminerals like feldspar. Commercial grades of kaolin are supplied and transported as dry powder, semi-dry noodle, or liquid slurry.
Kaolin Clay, sometimes called White or China Clay, is a highly adsorbent clay that cleanses the skin. It's especially beneficial for those with sensitive skin and wonderful in use as a clay poultice, mud pack, facial mask and even in some lotion and cleanser recipes. It gently exfoliates and cleanses resulting in younger looking skin. Clays used in water based products are best preserved with broad spectrum preservatives such as Essential's Preservative Blend.White Kaolin Clay is a cosmetic clay used in cold process soap, bath bombs and masks. This clay can be used on normal, dry and sensitive skin because it does not draw oils from the skin. It is also a very mild clay that works as a thickening agent. Kaolin clay is one of the most common cosmetic clays!
Calcined China Clay (also called metakaolin) is a powdered white non-plastic material. It is raw kaolin that has been fired (in a rotary calcining kiln) high enough to remove the 12% (approx) crystal water. The material is a good example of how we can alter the mineralogy of a material to affect its working properties while maintaining the chemistry to maintain fired properties.
